Daniel Iffla Osiris: patronage as transmission of the name
Osiris (1825-1907) is one of the great Jewish philanthropists. Now almost forgotten although he granted funds to the Pasteur Institute, saved Malmaison Castle, had seven synagogues and many monuments built. Born without inheritance and dead without heir he took care to pass on his name through his works, his at least somewhat enigmatic nickname and his humanistic values inspired by Judaism and his love for France. Nowadays his standards are still current and an association of “Friends of Osiris” decided to support their transmission by way of its name.
