From phone books to "cousinades" (in French)
The story started in 1985 when the author began traveling extensively around the world for his job. Over a 25 year period, curiosity, persistence and luck led from a simple three generations family tree to a worldwide Zivi/Zivy genealogy with over 4500 names. In 2005, an initial gathering of current descendants from 3 continents visited the family original locations in southwest Germany. With help from dedicated “cousins”, of a Jewish community preservation society and of local experts, participants who hardly knew each other discovered their common ancestor’s whereabouts and the region wealth of Jewish history and landmarks. The event was thereafter repeated every 3 years in other locations where the Zivi/Zivy family had its roots. Each time, it attracted faithful “regulars”, curious “first-timers” and remote genealogy “amateurs”, all eager to discover their ancient ties, visit ancestry places and exchange family information.
This series of reunions has been documented in a family website, rich in documents, pictures, and genealogy data.
Gérard Zivy will tell us the background, recipes, pitfalls and anecdotes which led to these successful “cousinades”.
